Does it work as an antispyware too?
thank-you
Is (pc tools) threatfire free edition and (emsi software)a-squared free 3.0 an antivirus?bmw
ThreatFire is a behavior blocker.
a-Squared is an anti-spyware.
Neither is an anti-virus.
Does it work as an antispyware too?
thank-you
ThreatFire is a behavior blocker.
a-Squared is an anti-spyware.
Neither is an anti-virus.
i tried 2 download it twice. at first it got downloaded but when i was installing it an error came and the installation process came 2 a standstill. scond time when i was downloading it, 99% of it was downloded but after that my pc was hanged
Give up Annie! An illegal version can be traced now by Norton and they are shutting them all down now, so it will be totally useless to you and a waste of time you trying to get it.
For good, free and recommended security programs go here http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat...
From that list, may I recommend you select AVG for anti virus, Zone Alarm for firewall, AVG Anti Spyware and Spyware Blaster.
No free lunch in business.
you could try www.download.com
they have a lot of free software
Don't Do it, your system will create new problems buy it and load it then use it OK.... because they show all tricks to attack your PC and threaten you to buy the product immediately
i think you cant get a genuine copy for free, but you can get some limited days trial,
My suggestion use AVG it is free, and less resource hungry and comparatively silent than Norton..
Before running after these *branded* anti-virus programs, may I bring the following link to your notice
The Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware test file
(read the complete text, it contains important information)
Version of 7 September 2006
If you are active in the anti-virus research field, then you will regularly receive requests for virus samples. Some requests are easy to deal with: they come from fellow-researchers whom you know well, and whom you trust. Using strong encryption, you can send them what they have asked for by almost any medium (including across the Internet) without any real risk.
Other requests come from people you have never heard from before. There are relatively few laws (though some countries do have them) preventing the secure exchange of viruses between consenting individuals, though it is clearly irresponsible for you simply to make viruses available to anyone who asks. Your best response to a request from an unknown person is simply to decline politely.
A third set of requests come from exactly the people you might think would be least likely to want viruses ''users of anti-virus software''.
They want some way of checking that they have deployed their software correctly, or of deliberately generating a ''virus incident in order to test their corporate procedures, or of showing others in the organisation what they would see if they were hit by a virus''.
Obviously, there is considerable intellectual justification for testing anti-virus software against real viruses. If you are an anti-virus vendor, then you do this (or should do it!) before every release of your product, in order to ensure that it really works. However, you do not (or should not!) perform your tests in a ''real'' environment. You use (or should use!) a secure, controlled and independent laboratory environment within which your virus collection is maintained.
operating system is windows 98 s.e.
Symantec.com
Symantec.com
Go to symantec.com but personally I think it`s worth more headaches than it`s worth I use AVG Antivrus Free Edition and haven`t had a moments problem with it it`s also a free download from grisoft.com
Go to Norton Antivirus.com

There isn't a free version of Norton but there is of AVG %26 it is better then Norton.
Go here for the free version - http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F...
Have you looked at download.com
Don't bother with Norton. You need an Freeware solution, and Avast! Home Edition will help you.
there is not a free version, only a trial version, you can get it at syamantec.com
well, if u work at norton company..u probably get free version
Go to www.cnet.com
Try a online antivirus scanner and a online anti-adware/malware/spyware scanner in safe mode with network to clean up your computer BEFORE you download anything. This because the program you download can get infected.
Disable ''System Restore'' for Windows Me and XP, then restart your PC to clean your system restore points for viruses, spyware, adware etc.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/communi...
Now restart in safe mode.
To get in safe mode Press ''F8'' upon boot up.
Select ''Safe mode with Network''.
Go to Start 鈥?Run - type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html Enter(ok).
Do a full scan of all your drivers. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.
When that scan does not find anything you reboot again in safe mode with network.
Go to Start 鈥?Run 鈥?type iexplore http://www.ewido.net/en/ Enter(ok).
Do a full scan of all your drivers. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network.
**NOTE**: Do NOT do anything else with your computer when scanning. This because you can start virus/adware/spyware/malware manually.
When no one of these scanners are showing anything you can reboot back to normal mode.
Turn on ''System Restore''.

Antivirus: BitDefender Online scanner - will scan and remove threats.

programs and webpages open and close on their own ,,my e mail at Yahoo,, when writing it will disaappear and page will be blank and have to reype entire e mail over,, browser alot seems to have a mind of its own,, and have trouble navigating it where I want it to go,,, Which makes everything very slow,,And checking in My computer,,, control panel,,, add / remove programs,,, it shows AVG as not running since 08 / 15 / 06,, Why does it like open and act like it is running each morning on schedule,,what could be wrong? Help please !!!
Once you have a virus, they often attack anti-virus programs making them not able to work properly.
You need to treat it like you have a virus and clean it up yourself
Free on-line scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Scan with both AdAware and SpyBot available at http://download.com
Then manually update and scan with AVG
If these find anything and can't remove them try scanning in safe mode (F8 during start up)
Antivirus are dime a dozen; I don't mean to discourage anyone. But since I have my wireless router I never encountered any trouble on my system.
I only have a regularly updated AVG Free dition (latest) and Spyware Terminator installed in my computer. I have to do regular internet work. So, how well is my computer protected?
In addition to those programs, you should have a firewall, preferably one with intrusion prevention. You should make sure to use the realtime shield in Spyware Terminator, but you may want additional removal programs, since no one antispyware program can protect against all spyware due to the different interpretations of what constitutes spyware.
I endorse the use of good freeware security applications, as I've found them to be as effective or more so than commercial programs, when properly configured and used in the right mix. The selections below make for good ''roll your own'' suites:
firewall: (listed in order of preference)
Comodo (http://www.comodo.com ), or
PC Tools (http://www.pctools.com/firewall )
Comodo recently released version 3.0 of its firewall, which adds an intrusion prevention component that's very effective, though it does take time for it to learn your system, and requires some ongoing attention by the user to make sure programs don't get improperly blocked. Comodo is one of the strongest firewalls available, freeware or commercial, according to the independent testing site matousec.com.
But like they said nothing is totally Free...So you take the bite...
''avast!''
www.avast.com
For basic security required by personal users, you require ONE anti-virus, ONE firewall and at least TWO anti-spyware. I have given the links to the best you can have for free, in each category. Get them all.
AVG(Download this : avg75free_432a904.exe): http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/...
a-squared Free(Download a-squared FREE): http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/down...
Windows Defender(only for genuine Windows XP): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...
Comodo Personal Firewall: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/....
To activate the real-time protection of Windows Defender, go to Tools %26gt; Options and tick 'Use Real Protection'. In case you don't have genuine Windows, you can use Spyware Terminator as a good substitute to Windows Defender.
http://www.spywareterminator.com/...
Here are some security tips:
1.Never use more than one anti-virus or firewall. There is a good possibility that they will fight each other. However, you can use as many anti-spywares as you wish, provided you use the real-time protection of only one of them.
All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free. After you install any of them, make sure you update them to get the full affect.
Download Grisoft AVG 7.5 Anti-Virus,Anti-Malware.(free)
AVG is a collection of anti-virus protection tools that gives you full protection against viruses, worms, Trojans and malware. AVG provides you with all that you need to be completely protected: including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.

Spybot - Search %26 Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been ''hijacked'' (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S%26D is free.
There are two good ones for free, Avast Antivirus Home Edition y Avira Personal Antivirus, the both need a registration in the webpage and they send you the activation code, then you will have free updates, etc. I put the two links below.
AVG and Avast has free ones.
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cle...
There are more free antivirus programs out there.
What's the best i don't know. I use Norton.
You need a firewall to.
ZoneAlarm has a free one.
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/c...
Disable Windows firewall if it鈥檚 not disabled automatically.
If you download another firewall.
Also have some spyware/adware removers like Ad Aware SE Personal and Spybot-S%26D.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index...
( Download Ad Aware here http://www.download.com/3000-2144-100459... )
http://www.econsultant.com/spyware-datab...
*Note: Have only one antivirus program and one firewall installed on you computer.
Adware/spyware removers are ok to have more of.
Don't bother....use AVG free it's much better.
Uninstall Norton and use the link below. I've been using it for years and have been very pleased.
I love the automatic DAILY updates you can configure. Actually, I update every eight hours.
Norton AntiVirus is copyrighted commercial software, you have to go out and buy it. AVG Free is a much better alternative because it isn't bloatware junk like Norton.
You can get the latest free 30 day evaluation of Norton, or you can get the latest free 30 day evaluation of NOD32. I would recommend NOD32. It is not the ''demanding'' software that Norton is. The links are below:
To the best of my knowledge, the latest version is not free.
I currently have norton internet security 2007 but I find it very slow at times and can cause problems when installing.
get a mac mate, it repels spam, yeh software is more expensive, but the machines are amazing. i use clam cav, its free.
well, you have not got it, you probably have the worst. Kaspersky is very very good for a paid one and avast is very good for a free one.
Use comodo for a decent free firewall, they also give free anti virus, but i have never tested it.
i would say that McAfee Total Protection would be good http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pk... or Kaspersky Internet Security
Kaspersky is the best choice!
Kaspersky Internet Security + Kaspersky Anti-Virus = best defence
I found 15% discount fot it :)
I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/... On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.
The thing most of would agree on is that you should get rid of Norton. Its slow and not particularly effective. Now what you should use instead is another problem entirely. If you want free anti-virus then AVG. Although I don't use it myself the paid anti-virus that consistently wins awards is ZoneAlarm. They do a very nice combined Firewall / Anti-Virus which I thoroughly recommend. I use F- Secure for both and again absolutely no problems. As far as anti-spyware I have always thought that a combination of Ad-Aware and Spybot-SD was very good but (much as I hate to admit it) the latest version of Windows Defender might be better than Ad-Aware.
i use avast home edition, totally free!
i've been using it fo 3/4 years and have had absolutly no problem with it. i highly recomend it
get AVG 7.5 its free but don't let that put u off. It is really good and easy to use. I have been using it for three years and never had any problems with viruses. Also free and really good is zonealarm firewall, easy to setup and makes your computer invisible when surfing
i give my vote to ''AntiVir'' and ''Zonealarm'' to gether.
also check http:/www.majorgeeks.com
you will not regret it
If you really want to download Nortons, that is a hugh resource hog, and is really poor at finding viruses you can download. Plus when the evaluation period expires, you will either have to purchase or remove. You will get the shock of your life when you find yourself left with 375 fragments of Nortons hidden all over your pc. Will cause serious conflict.
http://www.nortons.com
Why don't you download an excellent free antivirus from AOL, Active Virus Shield, powered by karpersky of Russia, rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. You will get auto updates every hour on the hour, plus an excellent background scanner. AOL, will only ask you for your email, so they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year req., a new key.
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivir...
If you want to purchase state of the art technology then pay a one time fee of $29.99 for life. You will get automatic updates and all new versions for life. Protects you against any known or unknown virus, all compressed files, music files, auto updates and real time scanner that really works in the background. Out of Beijing, China. used by the Govt. of China. http://www.filseclab.com (I have used this program fro almost ten years and have never had one virus or spyware of any kind.
Minddoctor, France
Why don't you just buy the program. I spend 拢50GBP per year on Internet Security Products. McAfee are a business, they create excellent software and deserve to be paid for their software.
You can't. You must pay online per there site or buy a 1 year prescription through Best Buy or any other such store. I've tried to get it free from on-line with no success. Sorry. McAfee is the best and thus you must pay.
most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Good Luck, Merry Xmas !!!
You can't, it's not freeware. You have to pay for it.
I brought it, but I don't use it anymore. Perhaps you could try AVG Free. It's good.
One thing is it should find atleast some of new viruses and heal it...,
All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free. After you install any of them, make sure you update them to get the full affect.

I have always had my doubts about it and just recently installed on my wifes computer and it works soo smooth and is great.
How can it still be FREE?
Or better yet how do they stay in business with having a free product on the market?
This is because they accept donations. They do not charge for the service but in turn if you like their product and can even just spare a couple of bucks for their maintenance and upkeep they accept your donation. It's rather ingenious actually. Tons of people donating adds up quick. Especially when the software is so good.
whoever told you AVG was any good LIED the only reason it is free is because it is CRAP just wait till you get a nasty virus or trojan it wont get rid of then you'll see just how good it is
1) It's *not* that good. Avast and Avira are both much better.
2) They and other reputable companies give away less-functional free versions of their paid software as an enticement to buy the better product.
You get what you pay for.
Because it is NOT very good. It virus detection rates are horrible.
Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!
AVG is excellent i I as a matter of fact had a Trojan horses 4 sources it found and destroyed (the free version). AVG is the best there is for free it also finds infected files. AVG can still be free because it makes enough sales through its anti-virus that you can buy, that shows how much people like it.
AVG sucks use Avast or Avira
Try Kaspersky it works great, http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/trial...
Hope that help !!!!

norton is pretty good, so is McAfee both offer 30-40 day free trials
Please clearify for me \
Thank you. Bernard
These programs are all free (there not the best but free).
1. AVG Free
a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)
b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses
Cons: low virus detection
2. Avast!
a. Real-time protection
b. It has an option to delete a virus once found
c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.
Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface
3. Avira AntiVir
a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
b. It's cute umbrella icon
c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses
Cons: A very sluggish update
Kaspersky or NOD32 are the best (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).
Free anti-spyware programs: Spybot, Adaware, AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido) and Super Anti-spyware.
Big difference between ''Free'' and ''Free to try; 29.95 to buy''
People who are rushing to download kinda miss this important info
Some are free .Try the free virus scanners at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... and see which one will help you .
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs are both 2 seperate and different things yet sometimes they come bundled together. There are different developers and different programs. Some you buy in stores and install, others you download... but for the most part NO they are NOT free. There a some ''free'' ones available online but generally they are trial versions or they do not really do much for your computer in terms of protecting. Your best bet is to buy one.
No..Antivirus free - AVG. Adware free - Adaware, Spybot: Search and destroy. Google ''free antivirus'' (no quotes) for more

''Computer...'' Is totally correct!
The best AntiVirus currently, on the free-market is Avira AntiVir. It has approximately a 99% detection rate of malicious software (Viruses, Trojans, etc) as well as a realtime scanner and nearly hourly updates!
If your computer is full of viruses, then use my ''home made'' free solution guide:
Download and use these programs to remove Malware!
1.Avira AntiVir
Download Link: http://www.free-av.com
Avira AntiVir provides the top protection vs. Viruses on the market. It has a nearly 99% detection rate and a low amount of false positives. As well as that, it provides excellent real time protection as well as an amazing AntiRootkit Scanner. Download it for the top anti viral protection.

iv'e used avg for years and find it very good
AVG charge now, no more freebies.
avast is the one i am using now
keep off norton.
not had a virus for ages now but i got a router running with nat enabled....this also helps.
Yes its the best you can get. I been using it for years, and it always works great. Plus its free!!
I use avast which is free without a problem.
I've heard several horror stories about Norton but these may be urban myths!
^^^ what Richard said, AVG is actually better than Norton as it doesn't hog resource like Norton does.
AVG is excellent, and nowhere near as resource-heavy as Norton. Contrary to some ideas, it IS free, a new free version (7.5) has just been released.
If you want to remove Norton properly, use Symantec's own removal program at : http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsg...
A good free firewall is Zone Alarm, and Ad-Aware SE Personal for dealing with malware.
You mean AVG? I have used it for some years and found no problems at all with it.
AVG AntiVirus is an excellent program but did not perform as well as other in independent tests conducted last August.
Personally, I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/defa...
AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)
And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivir...
use avast. Its free for home users and really works fine. URL: www.avast.com
After registration they will e-mail you the licence key. Use the key for whole year of free use and latest update.
I can give a few links that offer free virus and spyware removers...!You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at

Zone Alarm offers a 15 day trial, but you'll have to buy it to get really strong security.
go to pcworld.com, click donwload there,s lot of free softwares you can download for free
Some of them are and some are not, be very careful downloading anything that is label for FREE. When it says for free, its not, there is a price to pay for software that says for free, the price is (ADWARE, SPYWARE, TROJAN HORSES, and VIRUSES) If you are looking for programs that are good and reliable, read what others has to say about them before you try them, make sure that your get lots of information on what your are interested in also. There are quite a few antivirus, spyware , register cleaner, Etc. program out there, but there are lots of them loaded with spyware, adware, some viruses, and trojan horses. Just be careful. Get the ones that are trusted, or what others recomend. Below is a list of some good and trusted programs (antivirus, and spyware )
in this link
i can use either one. which one should i download?
I have avast and it is very good, if you get a virus a siren will go off and it will ask you what you want to do such as delete it or put it in a infected files chest, if you want to delete it all you have to do is turn the computer off and it's gone.
avast, get it free from netfree.org you can also get the norton updates there. avast is good!
I don't have the money to pay 50 bucks from other sites.
But some have it for free. Is this a trap or something or is it legit? thanks.
Not sure who has it for free but generally Norton Antivirus is a paid product. I'd suggest the free AVG anti-virus available at http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/...
It's a highly rated anti-virus that does a pretty good job
There wouldn't be any legal way to do this.
If you do find a link that will give you a free, full version be very careful. You will probably get a number of ''extras'' thrown in, but also for ''free''.
You can't get it free legally and I won't tell you how to do it illegally. If you want a free antivirus program legally, you should go with AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-pr...
AVG is a poor Anti virus program, the pro gives you 1% more detection %26 removal rate of the free AVG which only gives you 82% detection %26 removal rate.
In short only a fool would use it.
The free AVG is free. The pro version is not.
I'm not a fan of avg anyway....i know most of people will say use avg but it's not really that good.
According to AOL last test kaspersky antivirus is in the front with ability to detect 99.6%,f-secure come in second place of with 98.5% virus detection, bit defender in the third place,pc-cillin come after that with ability of 96%,and nod32 with 95.5%.
The difference between the normal version and pro from avg, that pro give you alittle more virus detection and it's of course not free.
AVG Free is crap!
Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. These types love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!
In test,

Avast = 4 Home Edition - Free antivirus software - free virus protection for home PC: - full-featured antivirus package designed for home usage.(FREE) = http://www.avast.com

Avg Antivirus. I have never had a prob with it and it's free.
i recommend avista. Download a full version from torrent.
free.grisoft.com
There's a great free version and the pay-for version is even better with firewall and all.
While you're there look at the anti-spyware software.
I like AOL Active Virus Shield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test chart is here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/defa...
Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)
Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also.
And it updates up to 15 times a DAY with new virus definitions, 7 days a week!
Good stuff, free for everyone from:
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivir...
most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:
http://www.163flash.net/firefox/
Good Luck
Try going to this link:

Going to give you another site and we use this when I was still in Microsoft PC Safety:

Antivir (Avira) is perfect ! www.free-av.com
I'm using it from about 3yrs and it's working very well, I used AVG before and it's ok too but I felt that Antivir is better..
My advice to you also to download www.siteadvisor.com beside the anti viruses, cause it really helps protect users from web-based security threats like spyware, adware, spam, viruses, phishing, and identity theft.,, try it
i have mc afee version 4.5.1 how can i update this to the latest version for free? how can i be protected from spywares

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield.
All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free. After you install any of them, make sure you update them to get the full affect.
AVG anti virus/anti spyware remover.
AVG Removes I-Worm/Stration 路 BackDoor.Generic3.GBB and .GBC 路 Worm/Generic.FX 路 Exploit.WMF
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/...
Spybot-S%26D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

AVG
It's free and updates everyday http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl...
Norton is by far the best
Avast is free one its pretty okay you can norton antivirus free for six month google free pack just type in google. They say AVG is pretty okay but doesnt offer on site protect. meaning if you download something you have to scan it before you open it and norton and avast scan as it downloads.
There are some free anti virus software available at zdnet downloads and other free software as well.
go onto bittorrent i think there would be plenty of sites free there have a look u might find one that suits you!
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/... (avg Anti-Virus)
Avast is free for home use, but not for business use. It's done rather well, but I haven't done anything overly stupid with my computer, either.
avg is ok. but as always, a paid for anti-virus is best becase its properly maintained.
AVG, from grisoft. Do a search for it, its easy to find
AVG Free edition
Hi there,
Instead of all these ''Mine is better than yours'' answers that go on around here, I'll instead answer with the facts.
In addition to a firewall you must have full time (active) virus protection and full time spyware protection.
All the following programs are free.
--------------------------------------...
Full Time (Active) Virus Protection
If you do not have active virus protection, install only one. All are excellent.
Try AVG first.
AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/...
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F...
or
Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...
or
AOL Active Virus Shield (powered by Kaspersky)
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivir...
--------------------------------------...
Full Time (Active) Spyware Protection
Windows Defender
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...
--------------------------------------...
Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.
Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-a...
Spybot Search %26 Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper
After installation: update + scan + immunize
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirro...
SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click 鈥渆nable all protection鈥?
That removes some viruses, others it will tell you are there but you have to buy a better package to remove them id guess, avast also sells other antivirus stuff and make a great profit on them so they can afford to do some freebies to gain customers
It acts like an advertisment for them, they do lots of other products too
it,s a free way to find any new virus that thet dont have on their list.
they earn 拢拢$$ by download, and it is a great prog too!
I am currently using the free version of Spyware Doctor and SUPERantispyware, and they work great, only one problem, I now have a VIRUS. The problem with that is both programs can't do worms or virus's, so can someone get me some, totally awsome program with absolutly no virus's already on it for free, NO TRIALS!!
Also I want to know how long you have had it, just to make sure it's virus-free.
They can all be downloaded from download.com I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
avg
google for AVG antivirus
If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

i thing avast is better than avg,, avg has some problem with outlook.. or atleast i had.. AVAST personal edition is free
Avast and AVG seem to be the most popular but not necessarily the best. Get Active Virus Shield provided by AOL and Kaspersky. Dont let the name AOL fool you though. It is a Kaspersky Labs product 100% with AOL's name slapped on it. Follow the simple directions on how to get this great antivirus from http://www.activevirusshield.com
Just a little statistics..
AVG Antivirus has a 82.85% detection rate
avast! antivirus has a 86.35% detection rate
McAfee (not free) has 90.68% detection rate
Kaspersky (not free but Active virus Shield is a free version of it with real time protection, updates, and scanner) 99.57% detection rate!!!
You decide..Good luck

Anti-Vir, slightly better detection than AVG but does not support automatic updates, http://www.free-av.com/
Avast!, comparable to AVG in most respects, http://www.avast.com/
It always happens, someone is going to suggest Norton or other system hog. You don't need Norton or any of the other pay programs, the above is adequate for home users. If you run a small business (or large corporation) then you'll have to get one of their enterprise solutions (or buy Norton Enterprise).
AVG Free Edition...one of the best.
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl...
I dont know but if u want a virus get with redsoxers
AVG is free and better than most that you pay for.
you can't download for free unless it is a trial

Here is an excellent free antivirus program from AOL, Active Virus Shield. Powered by Karpersky Labs of Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. You will get automatic updates every hour on the hour, plus a real time scanner in the background that really works well. AOL, will only ask you for your email so they can send you your free key good for one year. After one year just request a new key.
Here is a list of all the major free anti-virus programs:

Free to anyone, AOL member or not.
Spy bot, Ad-Aware, Ad Avast, AVG and CWS Shredder. They helped me get rid of a spy-bot (recommend by a friend of a friend) and I highly recommend them all! Norton didn't detect the virus the in tire time!! Norton can kiss mine!!
Please tell me valuable sources and I really need it. If it would make my computer slower, dont even mention it because my computer is slow enough. Also, if you can tell me how to make a computer faster, you will get a better chance of getting best answer.
AVG. it meets all your expectations, including the fact that it will not make your computer slow:
AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/...
And here are steps which can speed up your computer:
Please have the patience to read ALL of these:
1.Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and run it once daily before shutting down your computer. It removes all the trash files that are created while surfing through the net. Use its Issues section once every 2 weeks to delete all the unused registry keys. If you have a lot of Auto Start entries, then you can remove them from its Tools%26gt;Startup. But keep the important ones like firewall and the real-time protection shields of your anti-virus and anti-spyware.
2.Keep a decent anti-virus, a strong firewall and two anti-spywares in your computer. Always keep the real time protection shield (or resident shield) of the anti-virus and one of the anti-spyware active. Update them and scan your computer once every week with both the anti-spyware and once every 2 weeks with anti-virus. I have given the links to some free and good anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall; get them all:
Try AVG, it's one of the best antiviruses. It's completely free!!!
Mcafee has a 30 day trial.
Why use trials when their is perfectly good free programs out there for personal use. Search on the following terms:

lavasoft adaware
or try microtrends for free

I'm sorry, but anti-virus software that is free is most likely inadequate. I know this from experience, if you want to scrimp on something, don't make it anti-virus software. Just go with a less expensive, but decent brand name one.
You'll thank yourself later when your computer is still running and hackers aren't getting in.
I use The Shield Deluxe. Its like $35.00 for a year. I'm sure if you can afford to be online and own a computer, you can afford to pay for that.
It auto updates, scans occasionally, and never interrupts your usage, with the exception of when you first install it, it will want to do a full system scan, then confirm with you when unexpected activity happens.
After about a week of using it, you'll basically never see it again, it just silently waits for viruses and updates.
edit: I just noticed it has dropped to $30 a year
Here is an excellent antivirus program I use from AOL, powered by Kaspersky Labs., out of Russia. Rated #1 in the world for antivirus detection. (Free for life with automatic updates and realtime background scanner that works also on shutdown and bootup.
Free to anybody, as I don't use AOL.

has anyone else used the sbc global.net antivirus ? is it just as good as Norton ?
I have never tried the sbc antivirus. But I just keep on telling my friends to go with Norton. I do find that they are much better. But it is up the person. But if you think you want to give the other a try go ahead. You will be saving some money in a way. If you don't think that one is good. Then you can easily go back to Norton. But it is up to you.
better=it doesnt consume all your ram and slow down your pc.I have used it for 2 years with out any trouble.but I do use addaware se %26 spybot search %26 destroy also to help.

Avast! antivirus

It's great.
By far the best free anti-virus program out there is AVG Antivirus from http://grisoft.com It's free and I've been using it for years. It's saved me from lots of trouble on several occasions.
AVG from Grisoft.
Believe me you don't want it, Nortons while being the most popular is not high rated in detection / removal by those who test Antivirus programs, and it is a known Resource hog, which will slow your computer to a crawl.( I know from personal experience as I have been working on PC's for years.)
The Top Rated Free Antivirus Program researched from those who test Antivirus programs (av comparatives, virus.gr, and other reviews including this video review) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhXZo3dHu... is

( I used this to remove spyware and Trojans from a laptop that adaware would only detect but not get rid of ) It detected and removed everything
These 2 FREE tools will help keep your machine clean
In Canada if you use Rogers as your ISP they will load Norton on your computer for free. Check around your area for ISP's that do the same thing. Rogers in Canada is aligned with Yahoo.
i don't think you can but try AVG it's probably one of the best you can get for free
Most of the time it comes with your brand new computer.
You can't get it for free. However, many colleges and employers offer a corporate version to their employees and students but you must be associated with that insitiution to obtain a copy.
AVG is pretty much the same thing for free. You have to click around a bit because they want you to buy their premium version. But you can get their FREE version.

Norton Internet Security 2008, 76$ for a year subscription.
www.norton.com
Yes, you do
Most people would recommend AVG, but I know that it is horrible
Go for Avast or Avira
avast can be found at http://www.avast.com/ (product key is sent for free)
avira can be found at http://www.free-av.com/
Adware, is horrible, and will do little for your computer. Viruses are what you really need to look out for. Good luck.
If you please you could also just download all 3 of those and see which you like best.
Let me know what happen to the Kaspersky AV software after the trial period?.It become uninstalled automatically?.It can be use after the trial with its full functionality?.Please explain.Thanks.
Get the 30 day trial of Pandasoftware.com instead. ~
When that runs out you can get the full 1 year version with 3 licenses via http://www.pricewatch.com for about $10.00
Change d system date...................sometimes it works on cheap software.............
You have to buy it or else it won't work!
I am running windows xp and have recently downloaded several programs that say they are free but they only scan for free they don't remove anything. You have to pay for that service. If someone can tell me where to get a free copy of one that will remove the garbage let me know. If it works you will surely get ten points...
Please help I can't afford to buy one right now...
1. Windows Defender from Microsoft - free http://www.microsoft.com

AVG Antivirus - Free Antivirus Software
(CNET: ''AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is the most popular free solution available at no cost to home users and provides the high level of detection capability that millions of users around the world trust to protect their computers.'')
Ad-Aware - Free Antispyware Software
(CNET: ''One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and spyware, Ad-Aware 2007's excellent reputation is well-justified.'')
Spybot Search%26Destroy - Free Antispyware/Antitrojan Software
i need it for my own computer, thank you
I recommend KeyProwler, it is a very good keylogger, it will get every keystroke and it has a 90 day guarantee!!!
KeyProwler is undetectable by All Major anti viruses and Spyware. KeyProwler is the one i use it has Award Winning Email and Phone Tech support.
I like KeyProwler a lot because it is very simple to use and not overly complicated like the other keylogging software.
here is the address : http://www.keyprowler.com
Go on all in one keylogger from here:
http://www.relytec.com
It is the best.
most if not all Keyloggers will be detected by AV software due to the way they work, the only chances you have of getting one that is not detected is to write on yourself or exclude the files from scan.
However I take no responsibility if this information is used erroniously
If it was for your own computer, you wouldn't care if it was undetectable.
Use Avast or Avira maybe even Kaspersky
how do i get it off my PC every time i try to delete it
it wants me to give it a password and i never set a password!!
i cant get rid of it!
Have you tried Control Panel -%26gt; Add/Remove Programs to delete it?
That should take care of it.
If you need a free anti-virus try Avast, AVG or Threatfire
you dont really need one. And i havnt found a free one yet. apple used to give you a subscription to virex by macafee when you got .mac but they stopped that this year:( oh well still got the subscription
http://www.komando.com/bestshareware.asp... try this site she is a national talk show host
Macs have a unique advantage because most viruses are written for the program the majority of computers run, which is Windows. I've had my mac for almost a year and I've never had a problem with viruses. But if you really feel you need one:

How did you know your computer has virus? Did your antivirus found it or could not clean it? or, you are observing some mysterious things happening? Are you sure it is virus , not spyware?
Anyway, get AVG antivirus and spybot search%26destroy as antispyware. The reason I am recommending these because both can run in safe mode and from boot cd(something like BartPE).
Many others have already given you many list but no one said the key thing. How to clean?
Install those software and do update.
Method-1: First disconnect your internet connection(physically unplug wires). Then run spyware scanner first. Then antivirus. Then restart pc. Now I recommend run disk clean up: either use windows disk cleanup tool or get ccleaner(www.ccleaner.com). Clean all junk. Reconnect internet.
Method-2(better option): Unplug internet. start computer in safemode. Run antivirus first and then antispyware. restart computer in normal mode.
Method-3(best option when all above can't clean infection): Unplug internet. Make some boot security disk like bartPE. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ .
Now, boot from that cd and run antivirus and antispyware. it will clean to the root.
Hope you understand the importance of these steps.
Just as recommendation: After you clean infection, install a good firewall like zonealarm and use safe browser like opera(www.opera.com).
I don't know which antivirus you consider to be the best, but I personally use AVG antivirus because there is a full free version. There is a bigger version, but that is for businesses.
AVG gets really good ratings.
The only thing I can think of that is close to that trendmicro's software PC cillin. The software is pretty good, but the update feature is a pain in the ***. When it updates, it kicks you out of whatever you are doing. Yes, it kicks me out of gaming. However, on the plus side you can go to their site and do a virus check and removal for free. It runs inside of your browser and uses active x to do so, so make sure you allow it when you hit their site. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
AVG is the best free full antivirus out there.
http://free.grisoft.com/
I use AVG anti virus and its 100% free no spy ware etc and its reliable go here http://free.grisoft.com/
I found that the best free program is AVIRA Antivirus.
You can even buy their Premium version for $ 20 - both are
very good - get rid of everything.
I suggest you download BitDefender Free Edition. It is the No.1 Anti_virus according to http://anti-virus-software-review.topten... Here is the direct download link:
